Tythan Adams testimonial:
Firstly, thank you again to you and your company for all the assistance given to both myself and Rebekah, it is greatly appreciated and my experience wouldn't have been possible without you.
My experience in Selkirk, Scotland was something that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Not only was the rugby more challenging because of the difference in climate compared to South Africa, but made me push myself physically and mentally as well. Without the hospitality of the Selkirk people my stay there wouldn't have been the same. Having the opportunity to travel to Scotland was an eye opening experience and one goal accomplished off my list. Being able to travel and see a new place while doing what I love is what I've always wanted to do and now I am finally living in that reality.
Overall the experience helped to groom me, and I grew as a player as well as it allowed other doors to open for me. Since this experience such opportunities include, playing for the South African Sevens Academy team in France, as well as making my Currie Cup debut for the Cell C Sharks. This is the oldest competition in World Rugby and I feel honoured as it has been a lifelong dream of mine to play in the Currie Cup.
Once again thank you to you and RDJ Sports Development for all of your assistance in making my trip possible.
“Richard De Jager was introduced to me and thereafter the British Army Military Unit within which I serve in the February of 2010 upon a recommendation from the British Army (Infantry) Rugby Team. Richard’s Company were instructed to create a 10 days tour of South Africa in October 2010 which was to incorporate battlefield tours of the Zulu and Boer Campaigns and specifically those which involved our Regimental history; Rugby events to include matches, training and community charity days within the townships of Durban; Cultural visits to significant locations; Social events enabling the Regiment to meet its Association members who had settled in South Africa and finally Game Reserve and National Park visits.
All administration was to be Richard’s Companies responsibility. We required the Company to arrange the following: Coach transportation (very high standard), 4/5 Star hotels (6 in total due to travelling distances), Social venues, Rugby training facilities of a high standard, Rugby matches against competitive Rugby sides with pedigree in varying social backgrounds within South Africa, Battlefield tour events and guides, Cultural visits, National park and Safari events.
In preparation for the tour to South Africa we had sent an outline programme and requested an approximate costing schedule. In response, Richard’s Company produced a very detailed full-scale programme with several personalised recommendations. The suggestions put forward were instrumental in creating a truly astonishing tour for all concerned. The level of meticulous planning was apparent from the outset of our dealings with Richard’s Company. His Company representatives were a credit throughout the preparatory phases and during our tour. Their dedication to providing an individual and group service when catering for 60 people appeared flawless and was never compromised. Their friendly and helpful manner was recognised by the group in the gifts of appreciation which flowed at the end of our visit.
The quality of all the facilities and venues throughout was of the highest possible standard and it was apparent that the Company had obtained incredible deals which reduced the costs extensively. Throughout our preparation Richard De Jager provided a regular financial costs schedule which his Company would update after conducting continuing negotiations with the respective hotels and venues to obtain the best and cheapest options. It would be correct in saying that Richard’s Company showed very sound judgment when dealing with all matters pertaining to our costs and did in fact save us money in the long run due to his financially astute approach when booking our requirements.
I highly recommend Richard and his Company to any of those Clubs or organisation considering a sporting tour or otherwise of South Africa. My details can be forwarded by Richard for any further advice or references.”

“I originally approached Richard De Jager in the latter stages of 2007 with a view to taking my Unit in the British Army (The Second Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment) on a rugby tour to Kwazulu Natal in March 2008. The primary objectives for the tour were 3 fold. Firstly, to provide a different rugby perspective in order to take my players out of their comfort zone and develop them further, secondly, to complete the Battlefield tour of Rourkes Drift and Isandlawana and thirdly, to give everyone involved an experience they will not forget.
In order to realistically achieve these objectives I needed someone in South Africa who was able to provide key guidance and facilitate the programme and deal with all the principle contacts in terms of both the logistics and fixtures. Richard provided this service in a thoroughly professional and exemplary manner. Over an 18 day period we played 4 fixtures, (Drakensberg RFC, Hillcrest, Zululand and the Sharks Academy), all pitched at exactly the right level; that we came away with a won 2, lost 2 record shows the level of opponent was set appropriately, and Richard was integral to this.
During the tour we were afforded key support throughout. On the playing side, we were fortunate to be able to use the training pitches at Kings Park and Richard arranged for us to have use of the Sharks training equipment, so we wanted for nothing. Training on the next door pitch to the Sharks was an added bonus for all involved and undoubtedly lifted the quality. Additionally Richard arranged for our Sports Massage Therapist to spend some time working with the Sharks Medical Team and gain some valuable experience which has helped her career accordingly. On the administration side the hotels and coaches were organised without a hitch, the battlefield tour was exceptional and the addition of a game drive in Umfolozi capped the trip off superbly.
The tour was a fantastic success and has gone down in folk law in the Battalion! The objectives were easily met, everyone one involved enjoyed all aspects of the trip and made some fantastic friends along the way. Our opposition were outstanding hosts and the quality of rugby was better than I could have asked for. The social guidance we received ensured the proper touring evenings were equally successful. The lack of problems in all areas has to be put down to the detailed organisation which RDJ Sports Development Ltd, through Richard De Jager provided. I cannot endorse him highly enough and would recommend him whole heartedly to anyone looking at organising a rugby tour in South Africa.”
"From the moment i first contacted Richard he has been fantastic. He always answered my queries quickly and professionally and was a pleasure to deal with. Richard organised for me to go out and coach for 9 months in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. During my time there i got to work with both the Sharks and Midlands Academies and truly immerse myself in the local culture by coaching the development side Young Lions. I also got to get involved in the programme he first set up called Talent ID.
This is a programme designed to provide boys from disadvantaged backgrounds with rugby talent a chance to get into fantastic educational institutions while also furthering their rugby. This was a humbling and fantastic experience to be a part of. I found the South African people to be so friendly and welcoming and being a part of this culture has changed my life forever in more ways than i expected.
From a rugby perspective, Richards wealth of rugby knowledge and absolutely amazing contacts in South African rugby make him an invaluable resource, Having a Beer in one of the Sharks Coaches back garden on my second day is something i will never forget!
During my time working with and knowing Richard he has become more that just a manager or facilitator but a friend. I would recommend RDJ Sports to anyone and everyone. Whether you are wanting to further your rugby, playing or coaching, or just go out and experience the Southern Hemisphere Rugby culture for a year this is definitely the place to come."
“Richard is a very knowledgeable and well connected man in the rugby and travel world of South Africa. This is the second time I have used his services and he has delivered a fantastic package. His relaxed and ‘nothing is too difficult’ attitude to putting together a tour is a relief – especially when trying to please tour parties of up to 70 around South Africa. Richard’s real Jewel in the Crown is his ability to add the attention to detail onto a trip: the right hotels, the best restaurants, activities and of course the right opposition to play, which is always a tour planner’s biggest concern.
I cannot recommend RDJ Sports Development highly enough! Over the years they have become good friends and I have yet to find a better operator in South Africa.”
I would Like to thank RDJ Sports Development for helping me experience school, rugby and the South African culture by assisting me with a school to play for during my stay as well as th experience of attending Sharks Academy. During my stay i have grown both on and off the pitch with making numerous friends which will remain my friends and the amount of experience i gained from playing rugby in South Africa.
During my stay i stayed with Richards mother in their family home which was just like a home away from home. Richards mom treated me as one of her own and always made sure i was fed and wore clean clothes. My stay in durban was also one to remember as this was when i was attending Sharks Academy which has taught me so much which i can take into my career and home to my club in Germany.
I would like to thank Richard De Jager for everything he has done for me and for an experience of a life time.
